biography Not much is known about Yura's past, and it isn't something she talks about very often. She prefers to change the topic whenever asked about her childhood; her parents in particular. That is to say, Yura was orphaned at a young age and seems to have lived on the streets of Gridania and the surrounding areas of the Black Shroud for quite some time.
The authorities turned a blind eye to her shenanigans as long as she didn't cause too much trouble, and so she lived off of leftover scraps for as long as she could. When times became tough, however, she finally grew bold enough to outright steal bread and the like. Finally, the Wood Wailers were forced to act and apprehended the young girl with ease. Luckily for her, she was well-known around the city, and the Captain of the squad in charge took pity on her. Extending a hand towards her dirtied face, he said thus: "Before you now stands a choice that you must no longer delay. Do you promise to devote yourself to Gridania's protection and accept this old man's training? Or will you continue down the path of ruin and sleep in a cell tonight?"
...And the rest is, as they say, history. No decision had ever been easier for her, and she became an aspiring Wood Wailer, taking up arms to protect the only city she had known her entire life. To everyone's surprise, she was extremely adept at magicks of any kind and was thus taught by the Conjurer's Guild until she eventually yielded to her adoptive father and underwent training at the Lancer's guild as well. It wasn't until much later, after many years in service to the Wood Wailers, that she requested permanent leave to travel the world. Having matured in many ways and honed her skills to nigh perfection, Yura sought new adventures. Her teacher did not refuse her, having known this day would come eventually. She had paid off her debt and kept her promise, never neglecting her duty and being one of the finest pupils to date.
Yura went to travel the world as she had wished, from Eorzea to the Far East and even further. Now, she makes a living by taking on mercenary jobs and playing music in various places.
personality Yura is a kind-hearted adventurer with a heart of gold, not only because of Menphina's gift to her, but also in part due to her upbringing. Despite spending a significant part of her childhood on the street, the Wood Wailers taught her manners and made her into the fine woman she is today. They taught her to help anyone in need and stay humble despite great deeds.
Nevertheless, Yura is still an airhead. She is shy and introverted, perhaps even naive in how she interacts with others. Her stubborn determination to see the good in people has gotten her into more than one bad situation before, even if she may not see it as such. Instead, she would call it just another experience in life and dismiss it just as quickly.
This stubbornness of hers extends to her life as an adventurer. When her friends are in danger, yura will never back down from a fight, even if the odds are stacked against her. For better or for worse, she will fight to the last for what she believes is right. Throughout the years, her naivety has waned a little and given room for a feisty attitude to develop. Nowadays she will talk back at her enemies instead of being scared. Whether aggravating someone twice your size is smart however, is a different story – and not one she cares for in the first place.
Off-duty, she has taken up the harp and become a wandering Bard, sometimes playing at various Aetheryte plazas of her favorite cities. Despite taking her occupation as adventurer very seriously, she was hired as a waitress and bard at a quaint little Cafe located in the Lavender Beds, where she made many new friends. Having a normal job like this seems to have helped her relax and disconnect from the battlefield, experiencing some normalcy she lacked before.
Yura also has a bad habit of trying to play Cupid for her friends due to knowing when people are in love. As a result of this, she can't seem to find someone for herself, and she also beats herself up when her lover set-ups don't pan out as expected. It's become some sort of joke among friends that she is a 'love-struck doe' who cannot help but be taken by romance itself. Whether or not this is Menphina playing tricks on her is truly a mystery, but her heart remains yet unclaimed.
a realm reborn After getting permission from the Wood Wailers, yura enlisted as an adventurer with Mother Miounne and took on small tasks around gridania before setting out to the other city-states. She eventually joined the Scions of the Seventh Dawn after being inspired by Minfilia and was introduced to Y'shtola's sister, Y'mhitra, who helped her tap into her magicks and paved the way for a strong mage.
heavensward Thanks to Menphina's gift, yura heavily sympathized with the dragons' side in their war with ishgard, even going as far as feeling pity for Nidhogg. With the help of Hraeslvelgr, the raging dragon was eventually defeated – as was Thordan, whom she felt a great sadness for. Aside from the attack on the waking sands, Haurchefant's fate was yura's first true encounter with loss. Though she was never quite the same for it, she refused to talk about it and instead took out all that grief on her enemies.
stormblood Politics aren't yura's strong suit, so she left the liberation of Ala mhigo and Kugane in the hands of her trusted companions in that regard. Zenos was a pest to her at first, but he eventually grew into something more. What she feels for him is almost as complicated as what he feels for her, as he cannot seem to differentiate pity from affection.
Yotsuyu's fate caused Yura to feel a growing sense of despair and helplessness that would eventually motivate her to seek out more power.

shadowbringers When her friends' souls were whisked away one by one, Yura's mental state began to deteriorate, causing her to wake up on the First in terrible shape. Fortunately, she figured out the Crystal Exarch's secret very quickly, gaining a trusted companion to keep her grounded early on. Emet-Selch became an enemy whom she befriended despite their differences. She wept for every time they clashed and wished to comfort him in his grief – yet all she could do to play her role as hero was to take his life.
endwalker During her time in Elpis, Yura confronted her feelings about Emet-Selch and found an answer for herself, though she has never shared it with anyone and may never do so. When Tiamat came to help with the Warding Scales, she stayed a while longer than intended and offered Yura the power of her eye. Knowing her power was to be used for good by Hydaelyn's Champion, Tiamat departed satisfied, albeit now missing her left eye.
dawntrail With renewed determination, Yura set out towards Tural and new adventures. In Tural, she befriended Wuk Lamat and her people, averting a crisis that could have led to the destruction of more than one nation; though she mostly acted as a mentor of sorts this time. Though deeply sympathetic with the people of Alexandria, Yura agreed to do what's right and mourns their loss to this day.
